Why Public Art? Public Art exhibits of creatively painted fiberglass forms have exploded on the scene since the City of Chicago put the Cows on Parade in 1999. These community events have the effect of bringing a community together and the potential to generate substantial economic impact for the business community. Through coordinated promotion and organization of an exhibit, all areas of a community can come together to enjoy and benefit from the project. Businesses receive the benefit of increased pedestrian traffic in the shopping districts. Artists have a prime opportunity to exhibit their creativity and add to their portfolios. Increased sales in the business district bring added tax revenue to the local government. The added visibility of a community can bring new demand into the housing market thus increasing property values. At the end of the exhibit, the charity or designated beneficiary of the funds raised has the benefit of a potentially large cash inflow. The “Cows on Parade” raised over $3.5 million for charity. |
